In recognition of Veterans Day, the students and staff of Hobbs Middle School would like to invite our Veterans, current Service Members, their student at Hobbs, and their immediate family to join us for a Veterans Day event in honor of their service to our country. Our event will take place on Tuesday, November 10th, from 9:00 – 10:00 AM in the cafeteria.
Please RSVP to help us prepare for this special event. Attached to this message is the RSVP form. Forms will also be available in the front office. We ask you to fill out the information below and have your student return it to his or her first period teacher by Friday, November 6th.
The Book Fair is coming soon! Students will shop with their ELA class, and they can come to the library with teacher permission. Students in Ms. Przybylowicz’s worked collaboratively to complete an anticipation guide, discussing thought-provoking statements and developing group responses that reflected everyone's perspectives.
Throughout the lesson, students put all five WICOR strategies into action:

Jaguar students, we are excited about the upcoming Happy Halloween Dance on Friday, October 30th.
As a note: ANY STUDENT can dress up to school that day, even if you aren’t going to the dance! To wear your costume to school on Friday, you simply need to purchase a $2/ticket. Costume tickets are on sale at lunch October 22nd – October 28th.
Parents and guardians, we will only allow school appropriate Halloween attire. School appropriate means:
No masks. We need to see your face.
No costumes or props that promote drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or violence. For example, toy weapons (guns, swords, knives, etc.) or other facsimile type items are strictly prohibited. If you wouldn’t bring it to school normally, don’t bring it.
No dress that would be a significant disruption to the classroom environment.
For example, the blow-up T-Rex costume is fun, but there’s no way you can attend class in it.
For example, make-up that is gory, bloody, or scary would cause a disruption. For school, think fun, not scary.
Dress code remains, with one exception: you may wear hats.
The Principal or the Principal’s designee has the final authority for interpreting whether a student’s apparel/appearance conforms to the dress code. If you’re not sure, ask first. 😊
Come in your best costume, bring your friends, and have a fang-tastic time!

Good afternoon, Jaguar Students, Families, and Staff! 💚🐆
First and foremost, please know that we have been thinking about you, worrying about you, and hoping that you and your families are safe throughout these past several days. We miss our Jaguars, and I cannot wait until we’re all back together again!
Yesterday was my first safe opportunity to return to campus, and I spent much of the day surveying the damage. I’m back here again today, and I wanted to give you an update on how our school is doing.
Unfortunately, we are still without power in our main building. Our MPR suffered extensive flooding, but a rehabilitation crew is already hard at work restoring that space. Contractors are throughout the building assessing damage, but thankfully, most of what we sustained inside was relatively minor and cosmetic. The most significant concerns outside the MPR are in our administrative and gold wings, where we experienced standing water.
Our grounds are another story! We lost quite a few trees, and there’s a tremendous amount of cleanup to be done. But buildings can be repaired, trees can be cleared, and classrooms can be restored. What matters most is that our Jaguars and their families are safe.
As much as we miss you, I am grateful that we’ve been given a few additional days to recover. I know many of you are still facing some significant challenges. Personally, I’m still without power at home and have been surviving on Pop-Tarts and baby wipe baths! 🤣 It’s certainly not ideal, but I know I’m far from alone in that experience.
Please, please, do not hesitate to reach out to me directly if you or your family needs anything. That goes for our students, families, faculty, and staff alike. I mean that sincerely. Whether it’s food, supplies, assistance, or simply help figuring out where to turn, we want to know. We may not always have the answers or resources ourselves, but there are so many wonderful people and organizations stepping up to help our community. We will do everything we can to get you connected to the support you need.
I also want to extend a heartfelt thank-you to our first responders, power crews, maintenance workers, cleanup crews, and every single person working tirelessly to put our community back together. Your work is making a difference, and we are incredibly grateful.
On a lighter note, I was able to make a trip to Milton Bakery this morning. The drive there certainly looked a little different than it did a week ago, but I’m happy to report that the donuts were every bit as delicious as they’ve always been! 🍩 Sometimes it’s those little pieces of normalcy that remind us everything is going to be okay.
And it will be okay.
We are part of an incredibly strong community. We have neighbors helping neighbors, strangers helping strangers, and people showing up for one another in ways that remind us just how special this place is.
We will recover. We will rebuild. We will get back to normal, even if that normal looks a little different for a while.
To our students, I want you to know something: You are strong, too. You’ve been through something difficult, and I know some of you are still going through it. When you return to Hobbs, you will be welcomed by people who love you, care about you, and are ready to help you through whatever comes next.
To our faculty and staff, I know many of you are dealing with challenges of your own. Please know how much you are appreciated, and that the same care and support we extend to our students and families extends to you. We will get through this together.
And to our families, thank you for trusting us with your children. We aren’t just here to teach them. We’re here to take care of them, to support your families, and to stand beside our community.
We are here for you, and we will keep showing up until there’s nothing left to fix.

Makers of Hobbs Shine at Water Art Show!
Our Hobbs Maker Space students participated in their very first art show, celebrating water and aquatic life in partnership with Santa Rosa County Extension Office and 4H. After a week of research, collaboration, and drafting, 60 of our 124 makers submitted their final pieces.
The results? 55 blue ribbons (excellent) and 5 red ribbons (good) - including a purple "Best in Class" ribbon for Rebecca! Students created beautiful works featuring rivers, aquatic ecosystems, and 13 pieces highlighting the endangered Bluenose Shiner.
Special shoutout to Maci and Whitlee, who collaborated on one stunning piece with a river flowing across both canvases, and to Bella and Chloe, who earned blue ribbons despite being absent part of the week.
So incredibly proud of the effort, creativity, and hard work every single one of these kiddos put into this project! 💙🎨🐟
